Commissioned by George Vanderbilt, the YMI Building was designed by Richard Sharp Smith, supervising architect for Richard Morris Hunt, architect for George Vanderbilt's Biltmore Estate. The two story pebbledash and brick building in downtown Asheville was designed as a community center for the African American community. ADS provided architectural services from masterplanning to construction management of the building's multi-phase restoration.
